Description
The Third Man (1949), directed by Carol Reed, StudioCanal 4k remaster, encoded in 10 bit HEVC with AAC sound, including original theatrical dual mono, three commentary tracks, an audio recording of Graham Greene's treatment, and subtitles in English, German, and French. IMDb : https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0041959/ Video encoded in two-pass 13.0 Mbps x265 10bit with the veryslow preset for archive quality image. Audio encoded separately with Apple AAC for the highest-quality AAC sound available. Subtitles converted to VobSub and repositioned. Note : A true classic of film noir and thrillers, this British film was an instant hit when it came out in 1949, with its ripped from the headlines plot set in post war Austria, excellent performances from Joseph Cotten, Alida Valli, Orson Welles, and Trevor Howard, expressionist cinematography, and a distinctive main theme that's become a classic in itself. It's a must see for anyone who likes thrillers or suspense films. Holly Martins is an American writer arriving in post-war Vienna, invited by his childhood friend Harry Lime, who's offered him a job. However, he's told that Lime has just been killed in a car accident, and at the funeral, he meets two British officers, one of whom is a fan of his writing. As Martins meets more friends of Lime, he's told the details of his death, which involved him being struck by a car and then carried by his friends to the side of the street before dying, but he starts noticing discrepancies in the stories, regarding whether or not Lime spoke before he died, and more importantly, whether there were two people with him, or if there was a mysterious "third man". He also meets and befriends Lime's girlfriend, actress Anna Schmidt. The porter at Lime's apartment building, who had told Martins about the third man, says he has more information, but is murdered before Martins can speak to him again, and Martins has to flee as a mob suspects him of the murder. He meets with one of the British officers and demands Lime's death be investigated, but discovers that Lime was involved in a criminal plot, and not at all who Martins thought he was... This new 4k restoration looks pretty great, nice and clean, excellent contrast, perhaps even, honestly, a bit deeper in the blacks than was authentically possible for the period, but it looks very nice, and well preserved grain that I thought maybe was a little harsh, but it's been softened very slightly by the encoding and now looks quite filmic. The mono soundtrack is clean and clear too. The multimple commentary tracks even includes some of the cast and crew, which is unusual for a film this old, and the one with Steven Soderbergh and Tony Gilroy is quite interesting too. All in all, a very nice package. Hot tip Quote:HeVK torrents always have lots of keywords.
