Note : Time for some more Chinese vampires, hopping their way into your heart, and this is also the first film I've done directed by and starring the legendary Sammo Hung, who's up there with Jackie Chan when it comes to the elite of 70s-80s Hong Kong action stars. The film itself is a pretty broad comedy horror with a lot of goofing around, but it's charming as all hell, the fights are fun, the cinematography is very nice, the fight scenes are acrobatic, and there are some great practical effects. Other cast includes Chung Fat, Wu Ma, Lam Ching-Ying, Jonny Chan, To Siu-Ming, Huang Ha, and Dick Wei.
Bold Cheung awakens from a nightmare about two ghosts, and is almost immediately challenged to spend the night in an abandoned house, where he has to peel an apple without breaking the skin, however, his friend plays a prank on him which backfires and leads to the friend being taken by a ghost. Cheung then finds out his wife is being unfaithful, and confronts her, leading to her hiring a sorcerer to get rid of Cheung. This leads to a series of problems for Cheung, where he's harassed by hopping vampire corpses when repeatedly being tricked into spending the night in a temple. After many complications, including being falsely accused of the murder of his wife and jailed, a friendly sorcerer helps him, and he ends up in the middle of a spectacular fight between duelling sorcerers.
This is a quite nice remaster, with good color and contrast (perhaps slightly oversaturated), decent detail, and subtle grain. The soundtracks sound fine too, and there are so many to choose from! Also, Frank Djeng is on one of the commentary tracks, and he's always worth listening to.
