Note : Here's a very nice 4k remaster of one of the big letdown sequels of all time. Irvin Kershner's direction and Frank Miller's story are adequate, but don't come close to the brilliance of the original film, and there are a bunch of typical 90s tics like the urge to include a kid (it's at least an evil kid, so there's that), more comedy, which only partially lands, and being generally too on the nose. On the positive side, the film looks great, with cinematography by early Cronenberg collaborator Mark Irwin, the model, miniature, and effects work is top notch, and the cast is good, including of course Peter Weller, Nancy Allen, and Dan O'Herlihy, as well as the great Tom Noonan, Belinda Bauer, and Willard E. Pugh. All in all, it's pretty entertaining, but not really a worthy successor.
As future Detroit faces bankruptcy, the Omni Consumer Corp is planning to foreclose on the entire city and redevelop it as a futuristic project. The police is already privatized, so to push the plan, the OCP cuts salaries, provoking a police strike. RoboCop and his partner Lewis are dealing with an epidemic of Nuke, a new designer drug, and are on the tail of Cain, a cartel leader with a prepubescent second in command, who narrowly escapes them. OCP is also trying to develop RoboCop 2, but the attempts at using dead police officers in the cyborg program are all failures, so Juliette Faxx, an ambitious OCP exec, takes over the program and plans to use the bodies of death row inmates. After some complications, Cain ends up gravely wounded, and Faxx pulls the plug on him and puts his brain and spine into a heavily armed and armoured body. The OCP sends Cain to intervene in a secret meeting between the mayor and the drug cartel, where the cartel is offering to pay off the city's debt in exchange for leaving them alone, and he kills everyone but the mayor. However, Cain's addiction to Nuke, which the OCP is using to control him, leads to him going out of control, and RoboCop has to step in to try to stop him.
This is a very nice 4k remaster, which shows off the smooth, burnished shine of the cinematography with clear detail, but no unnecessary sharpening, great color and contrast, and subtle, tight grain. 5.1 remaster also sounds very good, both the stereo mixes are nice, and somewhat different, the two commentary tracks are interesting, and the Jaboody track is very funny.
Hot tip Quote:HeVK torrents always have lots of keywords. Try searching for “hevk sci-fi action” for more fights, but in the future, “hevk cyberpunk” for more high tech low life, or “hevk 90s” for more from the decade when action cinema stagnated a bit.Screenshots Mediainfo Code:General : Matroska / 12.0 GiB / 1 h 56 min / 14.7 Mb/s
