Description

Darkman (1990), directed by Sam Raimi, Shout! Factory 4k remaster, encoded in 10 bit HEVC with AAC sound, including 5.1 remaster, original theatrical stereo, two commentary tracks, and English SDH subtitles.
IMDb : https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099365/
Video encoded in two-pass 12.5 Mbps x265 10bit with the veryslow preset for archive quality image. Audio encoded separately with Apple AAC for the highest-quality AAC sound available. Subtitles converted to VobSub and repositioned.
Note : Sam Raimi makes a superhero movie! Outrageous idea, right? Well, the first attempt had its hitches, with Raimi first wanting to make a movie adaptation of The Shadow, before giving up on that idea and creating his own. It's not a bad movie, full of neat touches, cool stylized cinematography, some very Raimi stop motion effects here and there, and a lot of physical comedy, but it's tonally a bit weird. Liam Neeson is the star of the show, of course, backed by a great cast including Frances McDormand, Colin Friels, Larry Drake, Nicholas Worth, and Ted Raimi, and small appearances by a bunch of well-known people, including Jenny Agutter and Bruce Campbell (who was Raimi's first choice to play the lead, but the studio wouldn't go for it.)
Peyton Westlake is a scientist creating a new form of synthetic skin for burn victims, but his invention has a flaw, exposure to light makes it disintegrate after 99 minutes. His girlfriend is an attorney who discovers an incriminating document about a powerful real estate developer, setting crime boss Robert Durant after her. Durant shows up at Westlake's lab, kills his assistant, and torture and disfigure Westlake before blowing up the lab, sending Westlake into the river, severely burned. He ends up in a hospital as a John Doe, where a radical treatment severs his nerves to end his agony, giving him insensitivity to pain and also super strength because of some mumbo jumbo, but it also makes him mentally unstable. He escapes from the hospital, sets up a clandestine lab, and plans his revenge, while also secretly following his girlfriend, who thinks he's dead. Of course, revenge involves taking out his killers one by one, working his way up the food chain.
This new 4k remaster looks pretty great, nice, poppy color and contrast while still being very filmic, restrained but present grain, sharp without being oversharpened. Some of the optical effects look a bit dodgy, but that's hardly the remaster's fault. 5.1 track also sounds great, theatrical stereo is there if you want it, the DP commentary track is quite interesting, although I'd skip the other one.

Quote:HeVK torrents always have lots of keywords. Try searching for “hevk superhero” for more really super humans, “hevk sci-fi horror” for more horrible science, or “hevk 90s” for more from the decade that tried to do superhero movies without quite cracking the code.
